Hi, I’m Maris and I’m glad you’re here.

I started Broomtail in 2019 after having my second child, and taking an unexpected off ramp from my career as an e-commerce marketer.

As the adorably impractical baby gifts piled up, and the ads for another baby “must-have” tempted me during those lonely 2am feedings, I dreamed of a different kind of shopping experience for parents. I imagined a space with practical things—like room to comfortably park a stroller and change a diaper—but more importantly, I imagined a space that felt like an extension of home, backed by a supportive community who could help remind you of the beauty and humor in it all (or, when all else fails, hand you that glass of wine).

I hope Broomtail can make the everyday of modern parenthood just a little easier and a lot more fun. I hope when you open your kid’s closet, you smile at what you see, because it is just enough, and all of what you love. I hope you can laugh with a stranger over a shared experience and leave feeling lighter than you came.

Happy trails,

Maris

about our name

I grew up in the 80s in Denver when it still felt like a wild-west, cowtown. I loved horses and my imaginary games often revolved around caring for and riding my pretend horse. Meet Broomtail, a hand-me-down from my mom and a classic toy from the 50s. It was little more than a broomstick with a plastic, horse head on top. I would ride it around the house and yard, making up obstacle courses. To me, this toy represents possibility, wide open spaces and the power of a child’s imagination—all things I look to celebrate and foster for myself, my family and the Broomtail community.
